Ransford Gyan Wins 2023 Gatorade National Player of the Year

The top playmaker, goal scorer and defender on the nation’s No. 1 team is now the No. 1 player in the entire country.

Ransford Gyan, a Ghanaian native who just finished his junior year at St. Benedict’s Prep, was awarded the Gatorade National Boys Soccer Player of the Year earlier this afternoon.

Gyan’s impressive resume was far too jam-packed to not win the award.

He pumped in 18 goals, assisted on 14 more and was instrumental in yet another banner year for Gray Bee soccer on the national circuit. St. Benedict’s Prep defeated St. Ignatius (OH) in the fall to take hold of the No. 1 nationally-ranked team honor and then closed out the season with a commanding win over Pennington to lock up the NJISAA Prep A State Championship. Gyan’s playmaking ability, scoring prowess, defensive acumen and elite speed are all factors in him winning this honor.

JSZ’s Jay Cook profiled Ransford coming into his junior season, where he spoke about the pride he has in playing for his family back home in Ghana.
