Watch JSZ’s 2022 Hockey State Championship Highlights
You know it’s the final day of the New Jersey high school hockey season when teams are skating out onto the ice at the Prudential Center. We’ll have full highlights and reaction from the girls’ state championship and all four boys’ state title games today. Check in early and often! Morristown-Beard 7 Princeton Day 0 | Girls’ State Championship Morristown-Beard (17-3-1) defeated Princeton Day (14-6) 7-0 in the second annual Girls Ice Hockey State Championship to capture back to back titles under former New Jersey Devil and Coach, Bruce Driver . The Crimson led 2-0 after the first period following goals from Lilli Warnock and Logan Sutera. However, the story of the afternoon was Penn State commit Leah Stecker who finished with four goals and an assist. Goalie Gracie Meyers had 11 saves for Mo-Beard. JSZ’s Nery Rodriguez has the highlights and postgame reaction: Northern Highlands 3 Middletown North 1 | Public B State Championship Will Fuller’s second goal of the game in the third period was the game-winner as the Highlanders win their second state championship on the ice. Fuller scored in the second period to put Northern Highlands on top 1-0 before Jace Koenigsmark tied the game late in the second period. Brent Beswick sealed the championship with an empty-net goal. Sophomore goalie Daniel Moor had 30 saves in the win. JSZ’s Rich Chrampanis has the highlights from the Public “B” state championship game at the Prudential Center: Gov. Livingston 2 Morris Knolls 0 | Public C State Championship The Highlanders’ 2021-2022 hockey team will be one that will forever go down in Gov. Livingston history. A 29-save shutout from Shane Cook, paired with a stellar defensive effort, lifted the Highlanders to the win. Phillip Kousaftes’ goal in the first period was key and Alex Nasreddine’s empty-netter sealed the deal. JSZ’s Jay Cook has the highlights and reaction: Ridge 6 Livingston 1 | Public A State Championship Reese Judson scored a pair of goals 26 seconds apart late in the first period to stake Ridge to a 3-0 lead and the Red Devils pulled away to win its third state championship in the last six years. Denis Kuzmenkov also had a two-goal game for the Red Devils. JSZ’s Rich Chrampanis has the highlights from the Prudential Center: Christian Brothers Academy 3 Delbarton 0 | Non-Public State Championship The Colts have officially laid their claim as one of the single-most success hockey teams in New Jersey. CBA (27-0-3) brought expert goaltending, timely offensive plays and passion to the ice as they become the first team since St. Augustine (2007) to finish undefeated. John Donohoe led the way with a 22 save shutout while Patrick Reilly netted a pair of goals. Sectional champions are crowned throughout the state on Thursday and our team of MMJ’s has you covered with highlights from a number of those contests. Stay tuned throughout the night as the highlights come in! Seton Hall Prep 1 Delbarton 0 | Non-Public A North Final Drew Ligotti’s goal with :48 seconds left in the first half proved to be the difference in a battle between two non-public rivals. Top-seeded Seton Hall Prep (19-0-1) continues on their magical season after weathering a second-half storm from Delbarton (17-3-1). Aidan Batista made eight saves in net for the Pirates, who won their eighth Non-Public A North sectional title. Seton Hall Prep will face CBA in the Non-Public A final Sunday at Kean University. Christian Brothers Academy 5 Notre Dame 4 | Non-Public A South Final (1) Christian Brothers (20-1) captured their sixth Sectional Title in seven years following a 5-4 victory over (3) Notre Dame (17-3-2) for the South Jersey, Non-Public A Championship. The Colts went ahead 4-1 early in the second half before ND scored a pair of goals to cut the deficit to 4-3. After another score from Dylan Cupo, Notre Dame would cut the game to 5-3 in the closing minute, but there was not enough time for the Irish to lead a comeback. Cupo finished the game with two goals. Princeton Day 3 Ranney 1 | Non-Public B South Final William Vazquez scored a pair of goals and Milan Shah had a goal and an assist to give Princeton Day its first sectional championship. Vazquez opened the scoring when he followed his penalty kick which was initially stopped to break a scoreless tie in the second half. Vazquez added a goal with 11:41 left in the second half and Shah made it 3-0 on a free-kick. Princeton Day will take on Gill St. Bernard’s for the Non-Public “B” state championship on Sunday at Kean University. It’s another tournament Thursday of JSZ lax highlights! JSZ’s Nery Rodriguez has the Mercer County boys and girls championships while Rich Chrampanis has an outstanding Shore Conference boys semifinal battle between Shore Regional and CBA Princeton Day 7 Notre Dame 6 – Boys – Mercer County Final Top seeded Princeton Day captured its fourth straight Mercer County Tournament Title with a 7-6 comeback win over second seed Notre Dame. The Panthers fell behind 6-4 at halftime before a goal from Cal Caputo ignited things to begin the third. Jake Bennett would then follow it up with two more scores to take the lead. In the final quarter rather than try to attack PDS focus more on defense and held the ball to let time wind down. Bennett ended the day with a hat trick while goalie Connor Green had 10 saves. Lawrenceville 13 Princeton 7 – Girls – Mercer County Final Number one seed Lawrenceville captured its third consecutive Mercer County Tournament Championship with a 13-7 win over second seed Princeton. Big Red got out to a 7-2 lead at halftime thanks to a five goal effort from Princeton University commit Olivia Koch. However, the No. 17 Tigers rallied back to begin the second half thanks to a pair of scores from Mariana Lopez-Ona and Eva Petrone to cut the lead to 7-6. Koch, who would finish the day with six goals total added another score before Caroline Foster and Natalie Schur tacked on a pair of goals of their own to secure the victory. Seton Hall Prep exploded into 2019 with a big-time offensive outburst powered by a pair of five-goal games from UMass-commit Luke Blanc and Rutgers-commit Kyle Stephenson. Princeton Day’s Freddie Young Wins NJM South Jersey Game Ball
Freddie Young in just his second season the 6’2 sophomore has already made his mark at Princeton Day School. Freddie is well on his way to eclipsing 1,000 points as he needs just 230 more. Watch Wednesday 1.2 JSZ Hockey Highlights
Welcome to 2019, New Jersey hockey fans! Jersey Sports Zone kicks off the New Year with a boatload of highlights from around New Jersey. We’ll have coverage from wins by Don Bosco Prep and Point Boro, along with a tie between two St. Joseph hockey programs and a Middletown North vs. Marlboro nightcap. Stay tuned for it all! Don Bosco Prep 4 Princeton Day 1 The current second ranked team in the state, Don Bosco picked up it’s sixth win in row with a 4-1 victory over Princeton Day School to improve to 9-1. After the Ironmen went ahead by two early on, PDS answered back to make it 2-1 to end the first period. That lead would remain the same until the final two minutes of regulation when Liam McLinskey scored his second goal of the game for the Ironmen on an open net that would eventually to an additional late score. St. Peter’s Prep 7 Bergen Catholic 3 St. Peter’s Prep’s Matt Zdanowicz was a man on a mission during the Marauders’ first home game of 2018. Jersey Sports Zone brings you four games from around the state as we feature Thursday NJ girls soccer highlights Princeton Day 3 Hun 2 The Panthers wiped out a 2-0 deficit with three unanswered goals highlighted by Charlotte Meyercord’s right foot blast from long range. Bryanna Worthy scored the first two goals of the game to give Hun a 2-0 lead, but Princeton Day cut the lead in half on a Vanessa Devin goal off the corner. Jules Romano scored from 25 yards out to make it a 3-2 game and Meyercord was a few yards further back from that spot on the game winner. No. 3 Seton Hall Prep 16 Princeton Day School 10 After falling to top ranked Delbarton 16-9 just days prior, No. 3 Seton Hall Prep was looking to get back on track against 5-1 Princeton Day. The Pirates jumped out ahead early thanks to Notre Dame commit Griffin Westlin who scored twice in the opening quarter to give SHP a 6-1 lead at the end of the first. However, in the second Princeton Day began staging a comeback. Following an opening minute score in the opening minute of the second the Panthers scored three more to trail 7-4 going into the break. Wall 9 Middletown South 3 The Crimson Knights scored six straight goals to overcome a 2-1 deficit and delivered five power play goals to improve to 14-0-2 on the season. Zach Tarantino had two goals and two assists to reach the 26 goal mark. Sean Kiewe and Bobby Seelinger also scored twice for the Crimson Knights. On the second attempt Hun was blocked and that left the fate of the game in Nic Petruolo’s hands and he helped seal the deal in this one with his game winning goal. Jersey Sports Zone is excited to announce a new partnership with the New Jersey Devils. The high school hockey community helped put JSZ on the map and now we’re getting the chance to show the best plays captured by our cameras at three different New Jersey Devils home games. We’re asking you to cast your vote for the top play of December. We have ten great nominees from all around the state. The poll stays open through Friday at 3:00 pm. The winner of the poll will secure a spot on our Top 5 Plays of December which will be unveiled during the Devils game against the Nashville Predators on January 25 at the Prudential Center. Starting this month, JSZ and the New Jersey Devils are teaming up to showcase the state’s best players by telecasting the “Top 5 Plays of the Month” at Prudential Center throughout the remainder of the high school hockey season. The Devils’ will treat five high school hockey players “as pros” each month by honoring them during a home game. The honorees will get a photo opportunity with a Devils Player while JSZ unveils the “Top 5 Plays of the Month” on the world’s largest in-arena scoreboard at Prudential Center. JSZ fans will be able to select monthly winners via an online poll. 2017 Harry Rulon Miller Invitational Don Bosco Prep – 4 Albany Academy – 2 New Jersey’s top ranked Ironmen of Don Bosco Prep passed a big test on friday afternoon, taking down Albany Academy (NY) with a 4-2 win in the semi-finals of the Harry Rulon Miller Invitational. Don Bosco had to play nearly all of the final two periods without their star goalie Max Schwarz who left the game with an injury. Freshman Conor Callaghan stepped up to replace Schwarz and held Albany to just one goal, while Don Bosco scored 3 more to get the win.
