Girls flag football is coming to the Shore Conference this May. Middletown South’s Steve Antonucci organized a clinic for eight teams from seven different schools on Sunday in Oakhurst to give high school girls a taste of flag football. Nearly 100 girls ran through drills with area high school coaches and Dr. Jen Welter, the first female coach in the NFL. Former NFL players Scott Simonson and Jonathan Casillas were also on hand to give support. The New York Giants presented a check for $64,000 to officially launch the Shore’s flag football league. Middletown South, Middletown North, Middletown Combined, Mater Dei Prep, Shore Regional, Pinelands, Matawan, Holmdel

The Shore girls flag football league begins on May 5 and will conclude with pod championship games after seven weeks of play.
