One of the biggest softball games of the week is what starts our week at JSZ as No. 9 Immaculate Heart visits No. 12 Paramus Catholic with a chance to hand the Paladins their first loss of the season. Check out all the action below!
Immaculate Heart Academy 3 Paramus Catholic 1
No. 9 Immaculate Heart Academy softball ended No. 12 Paramus Catholic’s unbeaten season on Monday with a 3-1 win on the road. Scoreless after three innings, IHA’s Brielle Bakker and Julia Valente each bunted in runs to make it 2-0 Blue Eagles. Leah English then made it 3-0 in the fifth as her fly ball couldn’t be handled by McKenna Anderson, and Ariana Lee came home to score.
Blue Eagles starting pitcher Olivia Gilligan had a stellar start to the game, going 5 1/3 innings without allowing a hit. That ended in the top of the sixth as PC’s leadoff hitter and starting pitcher DiLynn Jeffries-El hit a solo inside-the-park home run to cut it to 3-1. Gilligan finished out the inning, finishing with nine strikeouts and two hits, and freshman Kahlan Vough entered in the seventh and closed the game out to secure the win.
