Pingry 6 Bergen Catholic 5 (3OT) | Non-Public 1st Round
It was already a wacky game with 7-seed Bergen Catholic hosting at Paramus Catholic due to graduation setup at The Jack, but the game that followed was even crazier. No. 13/10-seed Pingry boys lacrosse are headed for the Non-Public quarterfinals after defeating the Crusaders 6-5 in a triple overtime instant classic!
The Crusaders were down 5-3 in the fourth quarter, but they roared back to tie it as Dylan Usatine netted the equalizer with 34 seconds to go in regulation. A last-second save by Pingry’s Luke Burns sent the game to overtime. Two OTs wouldn’t be enough, and with under 3:00 left in the third overtime, Pingry sophomore Eli Ziv snuck a sidewinder shot into the bottom corner of the net to send the Big Blue bench into a frenzy.
Jacob Bleckicki and Alex Finkelstein each had two goals for Pingry. Burns finished the game with an incredible 19 saves off 24 shots. The Big Blue now face No. 5/2-seed Delbarton in the state quarterfinals on Tuesday.
