It’s become a Super Bowl Sunday tradition at the outdoor Avon Pond on the Jersey Shore. The US Wounded Warriors hockey team comes to Avon by the Sea to face off against the Brick Stars, a challenger program that features special needs athletes who get the chance to play in front of a capacity crowd. The program started nearly 10 years ago with eight athletes learning to play the sport and has blossomed. There was a huge turnout of Shore Conference hockey teams lending their support including CBA, Trinity Hall, Manasquan, Saint Rose, Point Pleasant Boro, Wall, Lacey and Central Regional. Three former NHL stars were on hand (Grant Marshall and Bruce Driver from the Devils and Nick Fotiu from the New York Rangers). Watch JSZ’s story on an inspiring day on the ice:
