A capacity crowd came to Ice World for the battle of Middletown. North against South is always a spirited rivalry game and once again did not disappoint. JSZ has the highlights from the Mayor’s Cup!
Middletown North 3 Middletown South 3
Jesse Dickinson’s goal with 2:01 remaining in the third period gave Middletown North the equalizer as Middletown’s Mayor’s Cup ends in a deadlock for a second straight year. The Eagles got scores in the final seconds of the first and second period. Freshman Mike Ferlanti scored with 21 seconds to go in the first and Michael Hannigan scored with only 8 seconds remaining in the second to tie the game at 2. Demitri Forand gave the Eagles a 3-2 lead in the third on a power-play tally before Dickinson came through with the game-tying goal for North. Brian Lupo and Anthony Tavares had the other Lions goals. The two crosstown rivals play each other twice a year. The Lions won the 2018 opener 5-3, but since the Eagles won the Mayor’s Cup two years ago, Middletown South retains the Cup once again thanks to a second straight tie.
