The 2021-2022 New Jersey high school sports season is officially over, but that doesn’t mean we can’t reminisce on what was an incredible year.

Jersey Sports Zone’s team of multimedia journalists had boots on the ground from August 2021 through June 2022 and covered over 1,000 games in over a dozen different sports during that timeframe.

So, before we turn the page on the past year, our team gets together and looks back on their favorite moments in each sport.

The 2021-22 Hockey Season

Jay Cook | North Jersey: Don Bosco 2 Delbarton 1; Feb. 15, 2022

“The Gordon Cup Tournament is the gold standard of regular season championships in New Jersey. Don Bosco and Delbarton are two of the most decorated programs in the state and the two programs clashed in the conference semifinals in a game that went the distance, and then some. The Ironmen and Green Wave skated to a 1-1 tie after regulation and overtime, forcing a shootout with a spot in the finals on the line. Bosco brought their A-game and advanced to the final thanks to some clutch shooting.”

Rich Chrampanis | Central Jersey: Middletown North 4 Rumson-Fair Haven 3 (Shootout); March 4, 2022

“Two Shore Conference teams went to Mennen and put on one of the most exciting games of the JSZ era. Jace Koenigsmark scored two late goals to force overtime and the Lions made an improbable comeback to reach the state finals. A lesson in never giving up and playing to the very end!”

Nery Rodriguez | Central Jersey: Westfield 5 Livingston 2; Jan. 22, 2022

“Having already lost two regular season matchups to Livingston, Westfield got revenge by claiming their first McInnis Cup Title since 2019 and did so in front of one of the most electric high school hockey crowds of the year.”

Mike Frankel | South Jersey: CBA 5 Gloucester Catholic 4; Dec. 13, 2022

“Two perennial powerhouse programs squared off early in the season and fans were not disappointed. The Colts and the Rams combined for nine goals, as CBA skated to victory on the road.”
