After a few long, arduous months, the very best of the best in New Jersey have reached the end of the road. State champions will be crowned in the public and non-public ranks over the next three days and we’ll have wall-to-wall coverage of all seven games from Piscataway and East Rutherford. Tuesday, Nov. 28 – MetLife Stadium

Bergen Catholic 24 Delbarton 14 | Non-Public A State Championship

Rutgers commit Kaj Sanders exploded for 110 rushing yards and a pair of scores on the ground as the Crusaders completed the rare three-peat in the big school non-public ranks. Bergen Catholic (11-1) has seemingly established a legitimate dynasty over the last three seasons and this latest win on the big stage was a true battle. Delbarton (10-2) fought to tie the game 14-14 at halftime, but Bergen Catholic settled in and shut the Green Wave out in the second half. Quincy Porter had seven grabs for 97 yards in the win for BC. Philip Folmar was Delbarton’s go-to man on Tuesday night – he scored both touchdowns for the Green Wave.

Red Bank Catholic 14 DePaul Catholic 7 | Non-Public B State Championship

Frankie Williams threw two first half touchdown passes and the Caseys defense delivered a shutout performance after DePaul’s opening drive to win its second state championship in the last three years.  Luke Wassef was dynamic on both sides of the ball with 96 yards of total offense including a 12-yard TD catch to break a 7-7 tie to go along with 12 tackles.  Emanuel Ross caught a 24-yard TD pass and was outstanding in the secondary in his final high school game.

Monday, Nov. 27 – Rutgers University

Westwood 21 Rumson-Fair Haven 20 (OT) | Group 2 State Championship

Tommy Bussanich caught the game-tying touchdown with :05 left in the 4th quarter and grabbed a 14-yard score in overtime to give Westwood an epic come from behind overtime win to complete the season with a perfect 13-0 record.  Rumson-Fair Haven (8-5)  took a 14-7 lead in the third quarter on an Owen O’Toole to Jack Gyimesi touchdown catch and were looking to put the game away before the Westwood defense made a goal line stand.  The Cardinals took over at the 1-yard line and Robbie Carcich engineered the 99 yard drive to tie the game.  Aidan Dugan blocked the extra point in overtime following Jackson Gallagher’s 2-yard TD to put RFH 20-14 to set the stage for the game winner.

Toms River North 23 Passaic Tech 13 | Group 5 State Championship

Micah Ford shined once again in the final game of his incredible high school career to help his Mariners repeat as Group 5 state championships. Despite a modest passing line of 72 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions, Ford racked up 41 carries for 199 yards and another score on the ground to pace Toms River North (12-2). Jeremiah Pruitt notched four catches, 64 yards, a touchdown and an INT in the win. Senior linebacker Anthony Rodriguez put the proverbial nail in the coffin with a 43-yard pick-six in the fourth quarter. Trashon Dye was once again the top threat for Passaic Tech (13-1), picking up two touchdown runs and 118 rushing yards in the loss.

Sunday, Nov. 26 – Rutgers University

Mountain Lakes 24 Glassboro 6 | Group 1 State Championship

Marco Dzamba led a dominant defensive effort as the HERD reversed their fortunes from a year ago to bring home the Group 1 state title. The senior made the most of his final game for Mountain Lakes (11-2), highlighted by a forced fumble and a recovery for a touchdown on a punt attempt early in the fourth quarter. Aidan Malnati and Jordan Hernando added rushing touchdowns in the victory. Damere Lasseter took a late lateral in for a 37-yard touchdown as time expired for Glassboro (9-4).

Mainland 56 Ramapo 0 | Group 4 State Championship

Mainland played as close to a perfect game as you’ll ever see on a high school football field. The Mustangs (14-0) scored on every possession of the first half to build a 42-0 lead and put the game away before halftime. Rocco Ordille capped a monster senior season with three rushing touchdowns. Cohen Cook also rushed for over 100 yards and found the end zone twice. John Franchini threw two touchdown passes, while Villanona commit Jamie Tyson hauled in a TD catch and grabbed his state-leading 12th interception. It was a tough ending to an otherwise outstanding season for the Raiders (12-1).

Delsea 28 West Essex 3 | Group 3 State Championship

Wayne Adair and Dan Russo both topped 100 yards to lead a 347 yard ground attack as the Crusaders busted open a 6-3 halftime lead ith a dominant performance at Rutgers.  After Russo scored in the first quarter, West Essex got a John Moss field goal and a late second quarter interception to make it a close 6-3 game at the half.  Adair rolled off a 32-yard touchdown run to set the tone in the second half.  Russo finished with two touchdown runs and QB Zach Maxwell found the zone from one-yard out.  The Delsea defense held West Essex to 27 yards in the second half and 84 for the game.
