A year ago, Holmdel’s season was a nightmare with eight straight losses. Head coach Jeff Rainess was forced to leave the team as he dealt with a serious medical issue early in the 2022 season. When Rainess returned in 2023, he saw his team put together one of the state’s most remarkable turnarounds. The Hornets host Matawan in the opening round of the Group 3 state playoffs as the #2 seed in the central bracket following a perfect 8-0 regular season.
