Nick Mangold is a New York Jets legend that has the entire NFL mourning.  His death hits hard in the New Jersey high school community as Mangold was part of Brian Bowers staff at Delbarton.  Watch our 2024 JSZ feature on one of the all-time great centers giving back to the grassroots level

Former New York Jets Pro Bowl center Nick Mangold passed away at the age of 41 after battling kidney disease.  Mangold spent his entire 11-year career with the Jets earning seven Pro Bowl selections and named All-Pro three times.

“Nick was more than a legendary center,” Jets owner Woody Johnson said in a statement. “He was the heartbeat of our offensive line for a decade and a beloved teammate whose leadership and toughness defined an era of Jets football. Off the field, Nick’s wit, warmth, and unwavering loyalty made him a cherished member of our extended Jets family.”

Mangold revealed two weeks earlier about his battle with kidney disease and the need for a transplant.  In 2024, he joined coach Brian Bowers staff at Delbarton coaching New Jersey high school football with the Green Wave offensive line.  Jersey Sports Zone’s Jay Cook spent time with Mangold and learned about his desire to give back and the joy he had working with the Green Wave in the trenches.

Jersey Sports Zone extends our condolences to the Delbarton football family and the Mangold’s.  We will always be grateful for one of the NFL’s all-time greats to talk with us about his journey in New Jersey high school football.
