A look back on a perfect day for Shore Regional’s Matt Cosentino in his final high school game
It’s safe to say that the friends and family of Matt Cosentino will have quite a story to tell for many years to come. In his final high school game, the left handed pitcher throws a complete game striking out nine, hitting a two run homer in his final high school at-bat and striking out the last batter on his final high school pitch in Shore Regional’s 7-1 win over Ridgefield in the Group 1 State Championship on Saturday in Toms River.
To top it all off, Cosentino got a shaving cream pie, just like the big leaguers when they win a big game.
His pitching days are over as he’ll concentrate on the outfield at Division I George Washington University, but he’ll be known for leading Shore to its first state title since 1993 with crafty pitching. He threw a complete game shutout against Pennsville in the Group 1 Semifinals and backed it up just three days later with another gem in the title game.
