State championship Saturday saw Cherokee beat Westfield and the rain to claim the Group 4 state title. The other three games have been pushed back to Monday as a result of rain wreaking havoc on Mercer County. Watch the Chiefs historic win and see the slate for the final day of baseball!
Cherokee 6 Westfield 0 | Group 4 State Championship
Brett Gable and Henry Radbill combined on a shutout and the Chiefs scored two runs in the 4th and three more in the 5th on the way to the school’s first baseball state championship since 1985. Brett Jackson was 3-3 with a two run double to make it a 4-0 game. Radbill hit a solo homer in the 6th and came on in relief of Gable to get the final five outs. Gable was tremendous striking out nine and walking just one in 5.1 innings. Cherokee finishes the year with a 28-3 record while Westfield ends with a 20-7 mark.

State Championship Saturday Postponed Due to Rain
Following Cherokee’s win, the Group 1 state championship started with Midland Park batting the top of the first against Middlesex before the rains forced NJSIAA official to postpone the remaining three state finals to Monday. Here’s the schedule:
Monday June 16
1pm – Group 1: Middelsex vs. Midland Park (Game resumes in bottom of 1st, scoreless)
4pm – Group 2: Governor Livingston vs. West Morris
7pm – Group 3: Northern Burlington County vs. Morris Knolls
