Perth Amboy – 1 St. Joes Metuchen 0 | GMC Baseball

Pitching duel or defensive showdown, call it what you want. Hits and runs were tough to come by for Perth Amboy and St. Joseph Metuchen. After 12 innings of scoreless baseball, Bryan Valenzuela came to the plate with a runner on 3rd base and one thing on his mind; Winning. Valenzuela did just that, a walk off basehit to right field from the junior third baseman gave Perth Amboy a 1-0 victory over St. Joes. Jose Peralta picked up the W on the mound coming on in reflief for starter Virgilia Cabrera who went 9 1/3 innings, with 5 K’s and zero runs for the Panthers. His counterpart Jake Hellwig kept pace with 9 IP, and 6 K’s in the loss for St. Joes. Watch highlights of the extra inning thriller on JSZ!

Easton 11 Phillipsburg 4 – Annual Rivalry Game

The Phillipsburg v Easton game is a tradition that can lasted decades between the two riverside towns. This year Easton got their second straight victory in the rivalry game thanks to senior Zach Spray, who went 3 for 3 with a homer. Also, starting pitcher Scott Poulson, threw flawlessly through the third inning and kept P-burg off balance all day; however, it was Nick Helman of Phillipsburg who put a damper on Poulson’s impressive outing after going 2 for 3 at the plate and picking up 3 of the Stateliner’s 4 RBIs. Nottingham 8 Steinert 1

With the Mercer County Tournament seeding approaching 8-4 Steinert came into Monday night’s Colonial Valley Conference showdown looking to earn a higher spot as they took on favored crosstown rival 13-2 Nottingham. The Spartans who have been impacted by injuries and some off the issues came in winning three of their last five. However, it was Nottingham’s day as they would pull away with an 8-1 victory thanks to a 3 RBI performance from Monmouth University bound Nick Houghton. As the county tournament kicks off in a couple days this might not be the last time these two meet this season. Watch the highlights now:

Rumson-Fair Haven 10 Red Bank Regional 1

RFH erupted for five runs in the top of the first inning and Alex Burnett was tremendous striking out 10 over six innings to give the Bulldogs a regular-season split with their rival.   Gordon Forsyth went 2-3 with 3 RBI’s and Thomas Forlenza and Thomas Elgrim contributed 2 RBI’s apiece.  Watch the highlights of Monday Shore Conference baseball from Little Silver:
