One of the first major pieces of New Jersey’s Class of 2026 recruiting cycle has decided on his future college home.
DePaul Catholic QB Derek Zammit told Jersey Sports Zone’s Jay Cook earlier this week that he is committed to the University of Washington.
“Overall, my heart just led me to Washington,” said Zammit.
The four-star, 6’1″, 200 pound signal caller chose the Huskies over Alabama, Mississippi State and Syracuse.
Zammit is coming off a monster junior campaign where he threw for over 2,500 yards and had 35 touchdown passes to just four interceptions. The Spartans went 11-1 and captured New Jersey’s Non-Public B state championship. It was the second state title Zammit has won in three seasons at DePaul Catholic.
Why Washington? Zammit is going nearly 3,000 miles across the country because of a relationship he formed with Washington HC Jedd Fisch, who went to high school at Hanover Park in Morris County. Zammit grew up just 25 minutes away in Lincoln Park, Morris County.
