Joe Mantegna is a household name in New Jersey high school basketball – he’s placed countless players into the college basketball ranks and even has a few NBA players on his resume at perennial prep power Blair Academy.

But this summer, Mantegna is going to enjoy the challenge of a lifetime. He’s been tabbed by two of his former players to be an assistant coach for the South Sudan Men’s National Basketball Team in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

JSZ’s Jay Cook spoke to Mantegna about the opportunity to join Luol Deng and Royal Ivey on their quest to make noise with South Sudan this summer:
