Wayne Valley 12 Ramapo 6

One of the week’s premiere showdowns in North Jersey ultimately came down to Marissa Almazi’s remarkable speed.

Almazi, a senior running back, rushed for two touchdowns as No. 4 ranked Wayne Valley (3-0-1) scored a 12-6 win over No. 7 ranked Ramapo (2-2) under the Friday Night lights in Passaic County. Team rankings are courtesy of the North Jersey Flag Football Coaches Poll from May 1.

Almazi opened the game with a laser-quick 71-yard touchdown scamper and broke a 6-6 tie late in the second half with a 30-yard touchdown run. She also had one interception on defense. Brianna Starling starred for the Indians defensively and came away with a pair of interceptions in the win.

Megan Twomey, Ramapo’s go-to player and a Seton Hall soccer commit, caught a first half touchdown pass and made over a dozen stops on defense.
