Anthony Onnembo’s story is inspirational on many levels.  Go Beyond the Score with Jersey Sports Zone to learn about the Old Tappan catcher who’s having a special season on the diamond and finding the time to inspire well beyond the Northern Valley

Behind every mask is a secret. For Old Tappan catcher Anthony Onnembo, a rare form of lymphoma turned into a private battle.

Onnembo was a freshman when doctors delivered the devastating diagnosis. For nearly three years, he kept it hidden from teammates, from family, from almost everyone. And while quietly enduring surgeries, relapses, radiation, and chemotherapy, he shined on the diamond while working quietly on his own to give inspiration to anyone facing adversity.  On Saturday, Onnembo had three hits in Old Tappan’s win over Westwood to reach 100 career hits on the same day he published his book, Cancer I Thank You.  He’s hitting .538 for a 10-1 Golden Knights team and wants his book to help the next kid who has to face adversity.
