Ridgewood 8 Chatham 6 | Girls

It’s not at all rare to win two games in a row. It’s not very rare to win two games over a No. 1 team in a season. Winning two straight games over a No. 1 team in any sport is truly something special. That is what No. 2 Ridgewood girls lacrosse did on Tuesday as the Maroons (6-0) defeated No. 1 Chatham (5-2) 8-6, just after defeating then-top team Oak Knoll on Saturday.

Ridgewood (6-0) found themselves down to the Cougars 6-3 with 4:00 remaining in the first half, but stormed back with five unanswered goals the rest of the way to claim the top spot in N.J. girls lacrosse. Sophomore midfielder Delaney McCrone led the way in scoring with a hat trick, her fourth 3+ goal game in her six games on the year.

The Bulldawgs turned things up a few notches as they used a stout defensive effort to earn a signature victory against the state-ranked Colts. Alex Frey was outstanding in net as he racked up 12 saves in the victory. Nate Yi netted the go-ahead goal, while Matt Baglieri and James Farrell scored to put things away in the fourth for Haddonfield (4-1). Jackson Chaney scored a pair of goals for CBA (5-3), which suffered its first loss against in-state competition this season.
