The NJ state playoffs got underway in Groups 1 and 3 on Friday night as JSZ brings you plenty of action from high school hoops. Check back as the highlights are posted throughout the night!


Winslow Twp. 59 Timber Creek 48 | Boys | South Jersey Group 3 First Round

Emanuel Harris poured in a game-high 21 points and 11 rebounds to power the eleventh-seeded Eagles to a first round upset over the sixth-seeded Chargers in a rematch of last year’s sectional semifinal. Minnesota football commit Quayd Hendryx went for 13 points and six assists, while Ibraheem Smith added 12 points in the victory for Winslow Township (13-11). Jerome Ford scored a team-high 19 points in the loss for Timber Creek (14-13). Winslow advances to face third-seeded Ocean City in the sectional quarterfinals on Monday.

Hopewell Valley 58 Red Bank Regional 46 | Boys | Central Jersey Group 3 First Round

Ty Becker led a balanced attack for the Bulldogs, finishing with a game-high 15 points and becoming one of five players to score at least seven. Fifth-seeded Hopewell Valley (18-6) secured its spot in the Central Group 3 quarterfinals with a win over Shore Conference Coaches Cup champion Red Bank Regional (11-16). The Bulldogs will now travel to Middletown South to face the fourth-seeded Eagles.

Middletown South 98 Allentown 63 | Boys | Central Jersey Group 3 First Round

Freshman Ryan Gannon had 23 points and senior Michael Fitzpatrick had a career high 20 to lead five Eagles in double digits on the way to a convincing win over the Redbirds.  Middletown South will host Hopewell Valley on Monday in the CJ Group 3 quareterfinals.

Middlesex 70 South Hunterdon 46 | Boys | Central Jersey Group 1 First Round

Middlesex boys basketball was the weekly recipient of our “Wheel Game,” as seen on the Beyond the Score Podcast, and they showed out for the cameras with a 70-46 win over South Hunterdon in the Central Jersey Group 1 first round. The 14-seeded Eagles gave the 3-seed Blue Jays a scare for most of the game, leading at multiple points including a 31-30 in the 3rd quarter. Middlesex then went on a 40-15 run to end the game and clinch a spot in the sectional quarterfinals against 6-seed Manville on Monday.

Jax Robel was the Blue Jays’ leading scoring with 19, followed by Julian Samuels and Chris Kozak who each had 17.
