Happy Thanksgiving from everyone at Jersey Sports Zone! The tradition continues around the state of Thursday morning football. We’ve got the 118th edition of Phillipsburg/Easton plus Middletown North and Middletown South battling for a second time this year and Manasquan and Wall. Enjoy all the action!
Easton (PA) 35 Phillipsburg 6
A year after suffering the largest blown lead in rivalry history, Easton left nothing to chance in Game 118. The Red Rovers struck quickly behind Cole Ordway, who scored twice and put together a 91 yard touchdown march on just three plays. Easton’s defense and special teams took over from there. Anthony Diaz recovered a blocked punt for a score, multiple forced fumbles flipped field position, and a red zone interception kept Phillipsburg from closing the gap. The Stateliners broke free for an 81 yard touchdown in the third quarter, but Easton controlled every phase in a 35-6 win at Fisher Stadium. It’s a dominant finish to a breakthrough 14 win season, a new Easton record for wins in a single-season, and a statement performance in one of the country’s oldest rivalry games.
JSZ’s Nicholas Doll has the highlights from Lafayette College:
Middletown North 7 Middletown South 6
Owen Robson’s 20-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Clark in the fourth quarter gave the Lions a second straight win against their crosstown rival. Middletown South has dominated the rivalry as North gets a win for just the second time in 26 years on Thanksgiving. The Lions topped the Eagles on Halloween in the state playoffs and now have a second straight win against their nemesis.
