The state soccer playoffs are underway on the girls side. JSZ brings you three games of action plus Tyler Mroz has highlights of the Prep “A” state championship on the boys side between Pennington and Lawrenceville!
Pennington 5 Lawrence 2 | Boys | Prep “A” State Championship
It has been another incredible week for The Pennington School. On Monday, the field hockey team captured the program’s first Prep title. On Tuesday, the girls’ soccer team handed a previously undefeated (20-0) Mount St. Dominic team their first loss of the season and claimed the Prep “A” title. On Wednesday, the boys’ soccer team completed the trifecta by winning their third consecutive Prep “A” championship. Ghana natives Matthew Addai and Kelvin Kwarteng celebrated their goals with impressive acrobatic displays, while Alexandre Ben Amou added two scores. Pennington (12-3-1) officially secure a three-peat in Prep “A” play, marking their second win this season over Lawrenceville.

Spotswood 3 Ocean Township 2 | Girls | Central Jersey Group 2 First Round
Savannah Tuma’s clutch shot with just 67 seconds left in regulation was the boost the Chargers needed to pick up a stave off a first round upset. Tuma broke a 2-2 tie with a right foot shot in the 78th minute as fifth-seeded Spotswood (14-7) scores the win. Daniela Lyons scored a pair of goals for Spotswood in the win, too. The Chargers advance to play Allentown on Saturday.

Toms River East 5 Hammonton 1 | Girls | South Jersey Group 3 First Round
The sixth-seeded Raiders made the most of their first home playoff match in recent memory as they raced out to a big lead to knock off eleventh-seeded Blue Devils. East Stroudsburg commit Alyssa Southworth went for a pair of goals, while Mount St. Mary’s commit Addison Gallagher finished with three assists in the victory. Maddie Moore had six saves in the second half, and picked up her 100th career save for Toms River East (14-7). Catalina Caputi netted her seventh goal of the season in the loss for Hammonton (10-10). Toms River East will face third-seeded Delsea on Saturday.

Old Bridge 3 New Brunswick 0 | Girls | Central Jersey Group 4 First Round
Freshmen Sofia Reidinger and Nicole Bonilla each had a goal and an assist and junior Nicole Nolan notched her 14th of the season to start the scoring in the Knights dominant opening round effort in the state playoffs. Old Bridge will host #6 seed Freehold Township in the section quarterfinals this weekend.
