St. Benedict’s Prep has been disciplined by the NJSIAA following their role in a post-game brawl following a match against St. Peter’s Prep last Saturday night. JSZ cameras captured footage and give perspective on what occured.
NJ.com is reporting that at least one player from St. Benedict’s Prep’s boys soccer team has been suspended for two games following a postgame brawl during the Gray Bees’ 1-1 tie against St. Peter’s Prep on September 27th at Lincoln Park in Jersey City.
The incident began following the handshake line after the game went final. St. Benedict’s Prep junior forward Amadou Hann attacked NJ.com photographer Tom Horak in the midst of the melee, putting his hands on the throat of the media member. It is not known if there are any additional suspensions on the St. Benedict’s side while it is believed that St. Peter’s Prep is not facing any further disciplinary action.
Jersey Sports Zone was at the match and provided the NJSIAA with footage of the incident per their request. Both teams remain eligible for post-season play.
NJSIAA Statement Regarding St. Benedict’s-St. Peter’s Post-Game
The NJSIAA has completed its investigation into the post-game altercation on Saturday, September 27, following the boys’ soccer game between St. Benedict’s Prep and St. Peter’s Prep. As a result, the NJSIAA has issued a disqualification consistent with established practice. Both schools have submitted corrective action plans, which have been accepted. We thank and commend both schools for their cooperation, their willingness to work together, and their recognition of the seriousness of this incident.
We remain deeply troubled by the disturbing nature of the altercation, including the physical confrontation involving a credentialed photographer. Such behavior is unacceptable and incompatible with the values of interscholastic athletics.
This incident, along with others across the state, underscores the urgent need to reinforce standards of sportsmanship, safety, and respect—on the field, on the sidelines, and within school communities. Consistent enforcement of the rules is essential to protecting the integrity of interscholastic athletics and ensuring accountability at every level of participation.
