There’s no denying Week 2 was a monster week for New Jersey high school football. Our coverage centers around the seismic Bergen Catholic vs. Winslow game in South Jersey, but we have plenty of action from elsewhere around the Garden State. Stay tuned as the highlights and reaction come in!

Bergen Catholic 41 Winslow 14 | Non-Conference

The top-ranked Crusaders made the two-hour trek to South Jersey and scored a decisive victory over the third-ranked Eagles to remain unbeaten. Trey Tagliaferri threw for 149 yards with all three of his touchdowns coming during a 28-point second quarter in the victory. Amar’e Newell hauled in a pair of interceptions to lead a stout effort defensively from Bergen Catholic (3-0). Jalen Parker racked up 228 yards through the air with two touchdowns and three interceptions in the loss for Winslow Township (1-2).

Holmdel 33 Rumson-Fair Haven 21 | Shore Conference

Hornets QB Jack Cannon delivered a second-straight jaw dropping performance with five total touchdowns and over 350 yards of total offense to give Holmdel (2-0) arguably its biggest win in program history ending RFH’s 15 game win streak and beating the Bulldogs for the first time in 11 games.  Cannon had two short TD runs and a 26-yard TD pass to James Murphy that was deflected into his hands to stake Holmdel a 20-0 halftime lead.  When RFH (2-1) showed signs of life in the second half, Cannon ripped off runs of 72 and 78 yards to put the game away.

Ramsey 42 Mahwah 35 | Super Football Conference

This rivalry showdown between the Ram and Thunderbirds will arguably go down as the North Jersey Game of the Year in 2025. Ramsey (2-1) held a dominant 35-13 lead early in the third quarter but Mahwah (2-1) scored 22 unanswered points and force a tie with less than a minute left in regulation. Running back Jonathan Davis broke off a go-ahead 56-yard touchdown catch just moments later and the Rams’ defense held on late to preserve the win. Ramsey QB Justus Favata had two rushing touchdowns and two passing touchdowns in the win, while Davis accounted for three total scores. Elijah Dickson exploded for five total touchdowns in the loss for the Thunderbirds.

JSZ’s Sean Dugan has every twist and turn from Ramsey:

Cedar Grove 41 Verona 7 | Super Football Conference

The Panthers continued dominance over the Hillbillies extends into the 2025 season. Cedar Grove (2-1) leaned on stellar defense and a potent offense to pick up their sixth-consecutive win their school rivals on Friday night. Senior QB Pierce Asfalg picked up a pair of rushing touchdowns and threw for another in the lopsided win. Coach Rob Gogerty’s defense was lights out as they gave up a touchdown but also scored a touchdown as well – Sebastian Kovacs’ scoop-and-score in the fourth quarter put the game out of reach. Verona (1-2) got their lone score from Bodie Maisano just before halftime.

JSZ’s Jay Cook has the highlights from Essex County:

Shawnee 21 Camden 20 | West Jersey Football League

Sophomore quarterback Cole Anderson notched his fourth rushing touchdown of the 2025 season, Tyler Nickles electrified with an 85-yard kickoff return for a score, and Michael Bartasius got the go-ahead TD on defense with a 50-yard pick-six that put Shawnee (2-1) ahead for good in a win over Colonial Division rival Camden (2-1).

The Panthers are off to their best start since 2016 and are quickly proving to be one of the Big Central Conference’s biggest stories so far in 2025. A well-balanced attack and big contributions from all three phases has Bridgewater-Raritan (3-0) in a great spot this fall. Morris Knolls (1-2) has lost two straight following Friday night’s loss.
