Don Bosco Prep left Hamilton Township Wednesday night tied 4-4 in the 9th inning of the Non-Public A State Championship. The Ironmen came back to Mercer County with over 6 hours of bus time and eventually the school’s ninth state championship. JSZ has the entire story of a wild two days.
Don Bosco Prep 5 CBA 4 | Non-Public A State Championship
Nick Gilpin’s sacrifice fly to centerfield scored Nick Becker with the game winning run in the bottom of the 11th to give Don Bosco Prep a hard earned state title after two days and plenty of drama. The Ironmen and Colts were tied 4-4 in the bottom of the 8th inning on Wednesday night when the NJSIAA announced that the game was suspended due to a town ordinance regarding the lights. With the curfew extended to 11:30, there was concern that the game did not have enough of a window to conclude. Both teams left and returned Thursday at 3:00 pm to resume play in the top of the 9th. Three full innings on Thursday saw excellent championship baseball with Don Boco converting two double plays to get out of jams and Becker getting to second base on a leadoff hit to third that went off a glove and into the outfield setting the stage for Gilpin to plate him. The Ironmen finish the year with a 26-2 record while CBA wraps up with a 22-5 record.
