The state playoffs are just around the corner as JSZ two games from the softball diamond to start Memorial Day weekend. St. Thomas Aquinas and South Plainfield collide for the GMC Tournament championship. Plus, Southern and Hammonton go to battle in a non-conference regular season finale. St. Thomas Aquinas 5 South Plainfield 1 | Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament Final

Liz Negron threw a complete game with 8 strikeouts and no earned runs and started the scoring with a two-run double in the first to give the Trojans their 11th GMC title and avenged last year’s loss to South Plainfield (14-4) in the championship game.  St. Thomas Aquinas (18-4) scored three runs in the first inning and has won six of the last seven GMC titles.

Hammonton 11 Southern 1 (5 Innings)

The Blue Devils provided plenty of fireworks to score a quality win against the Rams in their regular season finale. Leah Alexander hit her second home run of the season and finished with four RBIs in the victory. Kamryn Barker added a two RBI triple for Hammonton (17-8). Kaedyn Lipowski drove in the lone run of the day in the loss for Southern (15-8). Both teams now get turn the page to the state playoffs, which are slated to begin on Wednesday.
