Let’s play two? How about let’s play four as JSZ goes around the Garden State for some great action on the diamond. Check back as the highlights are posted throughout the night!

Elizabeth 6 Union City 3 (6 Innings)

Tempers flared throughout the game with umpires walking off the field in the top of the 7th inning causing the game to end one inning early.  Elizabeth pitcher Albert Maldonado hit a batter to start the top of the 7th which had players spill out on the field.  It was the third time in the game that coaches and umpires had to separate players before things got out of hand. There were no ejections in the game but umpires walked off the field during the third incident.  Union City raced out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first before Elizabeth answered with a five run second inning and one more run in the third.  Maldonado pitched five scoreless innings after giving up two runs in the first finishing with eight strikeouts.

JSZ’s Rich Chrampanis breaks down how the game arrived to its unusual end along with all the highlights from Elizabeth:

South River 4 J.P. Stevens 3 | Trenton Thunder Ballpark

It was a showcase of one of NJ’s best at the home of the Trenton Thunder. The Rams got out to the early lead on the back of Rutgers commit Julius Rosado, who sent one way over the left field fence in his first at-bat. Not only did Rosado produce on offense, but he was nearly untouchable on the mound. A 7 Inning-Complete Game, 0 ER, and 11 K’s. South River (7-3) led by four until the top of the 7th when J.P. Stevens (3-9) nearly tied the game off of a controversial call and an error.

JSZ’s Tyler Mroz has the highlights from Trenton:

Holy Spirit 12 Absegami 9

The Spartans saw an early 7-0 lead disappear, but put together a four-run sixth inning to sweep the season series in a key Cape-Atlantic League National Division clash. Chase Willson delivered a huge two RBI single, which proved to be the difference in the victory. Doug Schuster went for three RBIs, while Misericordia commit Bernie Hargadon drove in a pair of runs for Holy Spirit (11-2). Aiden Fazzino had a two RBI double in the loss for Absegami (7-4).

JSZ’s James Mooney has the highlights from Galloway:

Sparta 19 Morris Hills 0 (5 Innings)

The Spartans are playing their best baseball of the young season right now as they’ve won their fourth straight game. Starter Jacob Diaz pitched five shutout innings and struck out 10 while walking two and allowing just one hit. The 19 runs scored is a season-high for Sparta (6-4), who scored as many runs Wednesday as they had in the previous three games combined.
