Brendan Mullins went the distance to give Toms River North a 3-2 win over Middletown North in the second round of the Shore Conference Baseball Tournament.  SSZ has highlights of the Mariners win along with RBC’s 13-2 victory at home over Manalapan.  We’ve got all the scores and quarterfinal matchups

Jared Ballissimo had two RBI’s via the sacrifice fly including what proved to be the game winning run and Brendan Mullins struck out eight in a complete game effort to give the Mariners a hard fought win at home over the Lions.  TRN scored single runs in the first and second inning and took a 3-0 lead on Ballissimo’s second sac fly in the 5th.  Middletown North got back into the game thanks to a two run double by Mike Mercier in the 6th.  Mullins struck out eight and the Mariners sealed the win when catcher Justin Schaff threw out a runner attempting to steal second base for the final out of the game.  Watch the highlights from Saturday afternoon in Toms River:

Red Bank Catholic 13 Manalapan 2 (5 innings)

The Caseys didn’t let a rain delay damper a seven run first inning highlighted by a Steve Turk grand slam.  RBC quickly put up two runs on the board before a 20 minute rain delay halted the bottom of the first inning.  Red Bank Catholic also got a three run double from Brian Sheehy and Austin Nappi pitched four innings to improve to 8-1 on the season.  Watch RBC’s second round win from Saturday morning:
