Manasquan 8 Rumson-Fair Haven 7

The Shore Conference’s top two teams played a fantastic championship game.  Manasquan’s Joe Tonkovich scored the game winner just ten seconds after Charlie Curran tied the game at seven for Rumson-Fair Haven.  James Pendergist picked up a loose ball after a faceoff and triggered a marvelous passing sequence.  Jarrett Birch fed Canyon Birch who passed over to Tankovich who’s backhand from close range proved to be the difference.  RFH raced out to a 3-0 lead early, but Manasquan took a 5-4 lead at the half thanks to a Devan Carroll goal with :16 seconds to go in the second.  RFH had a 6-5 lead after three quarters before the Warriors scored two straight goals setting the stage for crunch time.  Carroll’s third goal of the game made it 7-7. RFH had a chance to force overtime, but Alex Werner’s shot in the final seconds hit the post.  Watch all the highlights and post-game reaction from a tremendous game at Long Branch High School in our US Army Lacrosse Game of the Week:
