Rodney Taylor is promoted from assistant to head coach looking to unite the Fliers and utilize their talent

Rich’s Take

There’s great mystery with the Scarlet Fliers quarterback battle as they have two outstanding options, which is always a good problem to have.  There will be a lot of attention on the opener against Ocean especially if Royal Moore is the starter at quarterback facing his former team.  Often times, a school goes outside of its walls to find a new football coach.  In this case, promoting Rodney Taylor from assistant to head coach was the perfect move.  I was around the team for just a couple of hours as they were getting ready to go on the practice field and here’s what I noticed.  I had a number of players hold a door open for me and asked me who I need to to talk to.  The team has to walk up some cement steps to get to the practice field.  On the day that SSZ visited the Scarlet Fliers, the Neptune field hockey team was playing Jackson in a scrimmage.  A woman with a stroller got to the stairs and there was a football player who helped her carry the stroller to the top.  All of this is going on without any of the coaches telling them what to do. Yes, wins and losses are always going to be important in football, but Neptune is already winning off the field which is ultimately what it’s all about.
