PHILADELPHIA – Jersey Shore scored all of its runs in a 5 run fifth inning to top Delaware County 5-3 on Thursday to advance to the championship game of the Carpenter Cup.  The top baseball stars of the Shore Conference got a taste of the big league life playing the game at Citzens Bank Park.  Barnegat sophomore left handed pitcher Jason Groome was stellar in the first three innings for the Jersey Shore not allowing a hit and striking out five.

Delaware County scored two runs off of Rumson-Fair Haven’s Shane McCarthy in the fourth, but the Jersey Shore exploded in the 5th with a two out rally.  RBC’s Brendan Madigan lofted a shallow fly to right that landed on the turf and got the Jersey Shore on the board.  Russelll Messker of Toms River South got the equalizer with a solid base hit to left.  The big blow came courtesy of RBC shortstop Al Molina who nearly left the yard with a go ahead two run double.  Molina, was a 29th round selection of the Phillies in the 2014 MLB Amateur Draft and got a chance to play on the field of the major league team that drafted him.  Molina told Shore Sports Zone he’s still deciding whether to join the Phillies organization or play college baseball for Coastal Carolina University.  Brick Memorial’s Kyle Kala closed out the 5-run frame with a base knock up the middle.

Colts Neck’s Chris Murphy, a junior, came on and pitched three innings of shutout relief matching Groome’s scoreline with no hits, one walk and five strikeouts.  In the 8th, the Jersey Shore got into a bases loaded, no out jam, but Jackson Liberty senior Dan Serrreino was able to come in and give up just an RBI groundout to seal the deal.  A steady rain fell throughout and the game was called at the end of the 8th inning.

Jersey Shore will take on Burlington in the championship game on Friday at 10:00 am at Citzens Bank Park.  The Phillies host the 16 team all-star tournament every year.  Shore Sports Zone will have highlights and post-game reaction of the title game.
